What Is Meant by the Coming of Saints
However, I do not want to propose such a conclusion that mankind will never attain peace and I know of a way that can deter from having to do so. It is the Prayer for World Peace. For those who read my book for the first time, it may be incomprehensible to be told that it is simply the practice of the Prayer for World Peace that will manifest peace on earth. Therefore, I would like to give an explanation in rightful order.
Man is made intricately indeed. We simply talk of man but the variety of minds which man possesses are beyond calculation. When we talk of lions and tigers, their differences in form are minimal and there seems to be little difference as well in terms of their character and behavior. Similar to the case with animals, the shapes and forms of men are not so different but their levels of consciousness are great and many.
Just because the shapes and forms of human beings are similar, is it right to put robbers and murderers on the same level as that of Buddha or Christ? We do not have to say Buddha or Christ here, can we put such saints as Dr. Schweitzer and Helen Keller on the same level with these considerable inferior deceivers? Please consider this point carefully.
How can men be classified under the same species called human beings while exhibiting such large gaps in character? Buddha Sakyamuni gave an explanation in saying that there are ten realms of living beings: hell; the worlds of hungry spirits, animals, asuras, and men; heaven; the worlds of sravakas, pratyekabuddhas, bodhisattvas, and Buddhas. There are countless types of human beings from the level of Buddha Sakyamuni to robbers and murderers. I believe that this very fact can prove the infinite evolution of mankind. I believe that this progress of evolution is about to rapidly take place at the present.
However, the majority of mankind seems to be influenced by animalistic lifestyles coming from the instinct of the survival of the fittest and that of self-preservation, and looks upon the spiritual evolution of mankind as being hopeless. In reality however, this is not the truth of the matter. These thoughts reflect the images of mankind that have not yet evolved; it is a reflection of the process of growth. The very fact that there have been many saints and sages who have appeared in this world including Buddha Sakyamuni and Jesus, signifies that the majority of mankind will be able to attain the mind of those saints and sages without a doubt.
A level which was able to be reached by one human being, is a path which can definitely be reached by any other. Whet science reaches a certain level, it becomes popularized its findings and can be reached and followed by many others. However, when it comes to the issues of the mind, it necessarily takes a greater amount of time than it does for science to become commonly accepted.
Those who have been referred to as saints and sages have manifested the divinity of man as it was and revealed the mind of God in this world while surpassing selfish desires. Not only were there one or two but there have been quite a few of them till this day. It is certain that the paths they have followed and the vibrations of their minds are emanating throughout the world today. |
